How to watch a Spitfire up close at Cornwall Airport Newquay

An iconic Spitfire is heading to Cornwall Airport Newquay, and there’s an official spot to watch it from behind the fence. Fly a Spitfire brings the aircraft, along with a P-51 Mustang, to the airport for a week at the end of July, and the airport has set up a dedicated viewing area so people can see the planes safely without parking on the roads outside.

When it’s happening

The visit runs from 27 July to 2 August 2026. The viewing area operates in two daily slots: mornings from 09:00 to 13:00, and afternoons from 13:00 to 17:00. You can arrive anytime during your slot and stay as long as you like, and you’re welcome to book more than one session across the week.

From the viewing area you’ll be able to see the aircraft parked on its stand, hear it start up, and watch it taxi for take-off.

The viewing area is at the P3 (St Mawgan House) Car Park, Saint Mawgan, TR8 4RQ. The what3words reference is ///performed.opened.dates.

The airport says the dedicated space is there to keep the surrounding roads clear and emergency access routes open, so anyone hoping to see the aircraft is asked to use it rather than parking outside the airport, where you risk being moved on.

What it costs

Booking a ticket is free. You just pay for parking on arrival for the length of your stay:

Ladders, step stools and other raised viewing aids aren’t permitted in the viewing area. You can bring a camping chair if you’d like to sit.
