Cornwall College Hosting Online Event for Home Educated Students

Home educated students and their families are being invited to learn more about college study options across Cornwall at a free online event later this month.

The session, organised by Cornwall College Group, will take place on 24th March from 6pm to 7pm and will introduce the Elective Home Education (EHE) pathways available across its campuses.

Online session for families

The virtual event is designed to help families understand how college courses can fit alongside home education. It will explain how home educated learners, typically those approaching Year 11 age, can join college courses while continuing their wider learning at home.

David Atkinson-Beaumont, Corporate Lead for Elective Home Education at Cornwall College Group, said interest in the programme continues to rise.

“We have seen strong interest in our Elective Home Education provision and it continues to grow each year,” said David Atkinson-Beaumont.

“Our aim is to support home educated learners by giving them access to specialist teaching, industry equipment and vocational pathways that complement the education they receive at home. These online events help families understand how college can become part of that journey.”

Courses across Cornwall College Group campuses

Students who join through the programme can study a subject they are passionate about while working towards a recognised qualification and using industry-standard facilities.

Courses are available at several campuses across the Cornwall College Group, including:

• Cornwall College Camborne

• Cornwall College St Austell

• Duchy College Rosewarne

• Duchy College Stoke Climsland

• Bicton College

• Falmouth Marine School

Vocational subjects available through the programme include Animal Care, Art and Design, Childcare, Engineering, Games Design, Hair and Beauty, Hospitality and Catering, and Sport.

Support and facilities for learners

Learners who enrol through the Elective Home Education pathway can also use college facilities such as Learning Resource Centres and access careers advice. The aim is to help students build confidence and prepare for further education, apprenticeships or employment.

During the online session, families will be given an overview of the programme, learn how the courses work alongside home education, and have the opportunity to ask questions.
