Published On: 14 March 2026Last Updated: 14 March 2026By

Cornwall Council is asking residents to share their views on a new Cultural Strategy that aims to shape how culture supports communities, jobs and the economy across the Duchy.

The draft strategy was published on Friday 13th March on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website, launching a public consultation that will run until 24th April.

The responses gathered during the consultation will help shape the final version of the strategy, which Cornwall Council plans to publish this summer.

Five ambitions for Cornwall’s culture

The strategy sets out a vision for Cornwall where creativity supports prosperity, regeneration, health and wellbeing for everyone.

It focuses on five ambitions:

  • Helping everyone join in and enjoy culture

  • Supporting people into creative careers

  • Growing Cornwall’s economy

  • Improving towns and villages through culture-led regeneration

  • Celebrating Cornwall’s unique culture, identity, language and heritage

Culture’s role in Cornwall’s economy

Cornwall Council says the Duchy’s creative sector already plays a major role in the local economy. According to the council, it contributes almost £300 million to Cornwall’s economy and supports more than 7,000 jobs.

The strategy highlights a wide range of cultural activity across Cornwall, including festivals, museums, creative workspaces and Cornish language work.

The council says the plan commits to delivering quality, enjoyment, prosperity and wellbeing for Cornwall through culture and creativity.

Council comment

Cllr Sarah Preece, cabinet member with responsibility for culture at Cornwall Council, said:

“We’re really excited to share this strategy which sets out how we will celebrate and promote our unique culture over the coming years.

“By telling our Nation’s story and building on our rich assets, infrastructure and partnerships, we will demonstrate how our cultural offer delivers for Cornwall, for the UK and beyond.”
