A Callington bingo night just bought a mountain of helmets

A pyramid of boxed climbing helmets stacked on a sunny lawn is not the usual thing to come out of a bingo night. But that is exactly what a summer fundraiser in Callington has paid for, and it has brought a months-long appeal to a happy finish.

A £350 win at the bingo

Callington Lions raised £350 for East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team at their Summer Bingo. The team called it a massive thank you, and said it was amazed by the support.

The ‘Buy us a Helmet’ campaign is complete

That donation is the final piece of the team’s ‘Buy us a Helmet’ campaign, which now closes as a success. Helmets are a basic part of the kit for volunteers heading out onto rough ground, moorland and steep terrain in all weathers, and the appeal set out to make sure every member had one. “This amazing support brings our ‘Buy us a Helmet’ campaign to a successful close,” the team said. “We are so grateful to you all.”
