Cornish Oven Donates £3,000 to West Cornwall Search & Rescue

Most donations start with a fundraising drive or a formal pitch. This one started with somebody ordering a pasty.

The Cornish Oven has handed £3,000 to West Cornwall Search & Rescue, the result of a casual chat at the counter many months ago that grew into a working friendship between the bakery and the charity.

A conversation that grew

The bakery has said staff realised, during that first exchange, how little they knew about the local search and rescue charity. Some weeks later they got back in touch to ask how they could help. The answer was kit for new volunteers, and the £3,000 donation has been earmarked for exactly that.

Andy Brelsford, the charity’s chair, said: “We’re thrilled to be working alongside the fantastic team at Cornish Oven. Our sincere thanks go to them and their loyal customers for supporting our charity and helping us make a meaningful difference for communities across West Cornwall.”

Meet the volunteers in Scorrier

The Cornish Oven is hosting the team at its Scorrier pasty shop today, with volunteers on hand to answer questions about what they do.

They are at the shop until 2pm.

Joining a training session on Carn Brea

A few weeks back, staff from the bakery joined a training session at Carn Brea, where pasties were on the menu for the volunteers. The Cornish Oven described the team as “a wonderful bunch” and said the day gave them a clearer picture of the rescues the charity carries out, and of the support it provides to other local services.
