Devon and Cornwall Police Support White Ribbon Day

Published On: 26 November 2025Last Updated: 26 November 2025By

Devon and Cornwall Police is backing White Ribbon Day, held on Tuesday 25th November, and calling on men and boys to make a clear promise to never use, excuse or stay silent about men’s violence against women.

Chief Constable James Vaughan said: “No one should live in fear of their safety. Devon and Cornwall Police fully support this.”

The Force says the national awareness day is a moment for men to show their commitment to creating a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

Encouraging Men to Use Their Voices

The police say they want more men to speak up and challenge harmful cultures and behaviours that create fear for women in daily life.

Alongside White Ribbon Day, the Force is launching its 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign, running until 10th December. The campaign involves partners across Devon and Cornwall and features talks, webinars, storytelling, films, candlelit vigils, exhibitions and workshops.

James added: “We encourage the public to help raise awareness around gender based violence by joining in with the various activities and events happening over the next 16 days, organised by our partners in local authorities, community safety partnerships, charities and other support agencies.”

Focus on Protecting Women and Girls

Detective Superintendent Nicky Seager, from the Protecting Vulnerable People team, said the campaign raises awareness and supports the message of calling out concerning behaviour.

Nicky said: “White Ribbon Day and the 16 days campaign help to raise awareness about this issue and provide messaging around calling out behaviours of concern and preventing violence against women and girls, which remains a priority for Devon and Cornwall Police.

“The Force has set a clear strategic focus on improving investigation standards and the service provided to victims.

“Our neighbourhood teams are working actively with partners on a range of initiatives to ensure the safety of women and girls in Devon and Cornwall and for anyone out at night that may feel vulnerable.”

The Force will promote events and safety advice through its corporate social media channels.
