Launceston Teen Named High Sheriff of Cornwall’s Police Cadet

Out of every police cadet in Cornwall, one Launceston teenager has come out on top.

A local Launceston teen has been chosen as the High Sheriff of Cornwall’s newest police cadet following a competitive countywide selection process.

15-year-old Faith, who has been a police cadet for over two and a half years, was appointed by the High Sheriff of Cornwall, Harriet Hills.

What the role involves

The role sees Faith attend official and ceremonial events across the county alongside the High Sheriff. She acts as a representative of the police cadets and an ambassador for young people involved in the programme.

What Faith said

Faith said being a cadet had opened doors she might not have expected.

“Being in the cadets is an amazing way to meet new people and make connections within Devon & Cornwall Police,” she said.

“It really shows you a different side to policing that many do not see. It has also given me this great opportunity to take on the role of High Sheriff cadet.

“I am looking forward to working with the High Sheriff over the next year and hopefully being able to continue showing you all just how amazing being a cadet is.”

She added: “I would strongly recommend that anyone with even the smallest interest in the police force goes and visits their local unit.”

A proud team in Launceston

Harriet Hills said having a cadet at her side was a chance to show what the programme can offer.

“Having my police cadet, Faith, alongside me at events is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the many experiences and opportunities that the cadet programme can offer young people,” Harriet said.

“The commitment, compassion and discipline shown by the cadets is an important contribution to community life and gives great confidence for the future of policing.”

PCSO Sarah Ross said the whole unit was celebrating the news.

“Everyone at the Launceston Police cadets is incredibly proud and pleased for Faith, she’s a wonderful member of the team and well deserving of the role. Congratulations,” Sarah said.
