If you were in or around Boscastle last week, a search team would like you to think back to who you passed on the path.

Volunteers from East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team have been out in North Cornwall helping Devon & Cornwall Police look for a 41-year-old man named Matthew, who has been reported missing from the Delabole area.

What Matthew looks like

He is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build, with short dark hair and a scruffy beard.

When he was last seen, Matthew was wearing:

  • a black t-shirt
  • a red and blue checked shirt
  • jeans

  • walking boots

He was also carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who has seen Matthew, or who has any information about where he might be, is asked to call 999 quoting log 874 of 30 September.

The team said its volunteers deployed quickly, covering the areas they were allocated “in challenging terrain and low light”.

“As always, we are grateful to our team members who respond at any hour when someone may be at risk,” the team said in its callout report.

The volunteers behind the search

East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team is a local charity providing an inland search and rescue service for lost, missing and injured people across East Cornwall, and further afield when needed. It is run entirely by volunteers and relies on public support to stay operational.

People can support the team by shopping through its easyfundraising page, which earns it free donations from online shops, or by donating or setting up a fundraising event through its Givey page.

In an emergency, the team says to dial 999 and ask Devon and Cornwall Police for Mountain Rescue.
