Natalie Haynes charged with St Austell behaviour order breach

A St Austell woman has appeared before magistrates accused of breaking a court order that has been hanging over her since 2017.

Natalie Haynes, from St Austell, appeared at Cornwall Magistrates Court on 12 August charged with breaching her Criminal Behaviour Order. The order was first imposed by Plymouth Magistrates Court in 2017 to prevent and deter offending, according to police.

What the order banned

A Criminal Behaviour Order sets specific conditions a person has to keep to, and the one handed to Natalie carried strict terms. It restricted her from entering the boundary of any residence without the owner’s consent. It also stopped her from asking any person for money or goods unless there was a legitimate reason to do so.

The reports that led to an arrest

Devon and Cornwall Police say that from late July into early August they received several reports from residents in the St Austell town centre area. Those reports described a woman matching Natalie’s description behaving in a way the order was meant to prevent.

She was identified and arrested by the force’s Neighbourhood Team on 11 August, then remanded to court over the alleged breaches and brought before the bench the following day.

What happens next

After the hearing on 12 August, the court bailed Natalie until 17 September, when she is due to be sentenced. It is worth being clear on where the case stands. She has been charged with breaching the order and the matter has been put back for sentencing, not concluded.

Police say they will share the result once it is known.
