Neighbourhood Policing Teams Recognised During National Week of Action
Spotlight on Neighbourhood Policing
Neighbourhood teams across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are marking a national week of action by highlighting the work they do every day to support local communities.
From Monday 23rd June, local policing teams have been promoting the efforts of neighbourhood officers, police community support officers (PCSOs) and volunteers as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week. The campaign is aimed at raising awareness of their role in keeping the public safe.
Tackling Local Concerns Head-On
Throughout the week, teams will be sharing information about how they’re addressing the issues that matter most to the public. There will be opportunities for people to speak directly with officers about local priorities and problems in their area.
Each policing area in Devon and Cornwall has a dedicated neighbourhood team that works with partner organisations to focus on issues important to residents.
Investment in Local Policing
Glen Mayhew, Assistant Chief Constable, said:
“Devon & Cornwall Police is committed to investing in neighbourhood policing and making sure that officers, staff and volunteers are accessible to everyone.
“Thanks to investment from the Home Office, we are able to deliver more police officers and PCSOs into our local community activity. We will ensure these 110 officers and staff respond to what our communities need and have been telling us.”
He added:
“With support from the PCC we have also received additional funding to tackle ASB in our neighbourhoods, and together policing will be visible and accessible within our villages, towns and cities tackling antisocial behaviour (ASB) and local crime.”
Recognising Local Officers
Glen also praised the dedication of local teams, saying:
“This week of action is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of neighbourhood policing. I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the officers, staff and volunteers in our local policing teams for the work they do day in and day out. This area of policing is a specialty as much as any other and they should be proud of the work they do.”
