Police Increase Patrols in Devon and Cornwall Following Manchester Synagogue Attack
Following the horrific attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester this morning, Devon and Cornwall Police have increased patrols and reached out to Jewish communities across the region.
Assistant Chief Constable Jim Pearce issued a statement on Thursday 2nd October, outlining the actions taken locally in response to the incident.
Support for Jewish Communities
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams alongside our Diverse Communities Teams have reached out to the Synagogues and the Jewish communities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to offer reassurance and support,” said Jim Pearce.
The force confirmed that additional high visibility patrols are being carried out in multiple areas, including Synagogues within Devon and Cornwall. These will continue over the coming days.
Working With Partner Agencies
Jim Pearce added: “We are also working with our partner agencies to ensure that together we offer support to the Jewish community in any way we can.”
Sympathy for Victims
In closing, he expressed the force’s condolences following the Manchester attack: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the victims in Manchester, their loved ones and the wider Jewish community.”
