Torpoint engineer struck by stone while working up a pole

He was up a telegraph pole, working at height, when a conversation with a stranger below took an uncomfortable turn. Not long after, a stone hit him on the side of the head.

Police are appealing for information after the assault in Torpoint, which left a telecommunications engineer with head injuries. They have released an image of a man they would like to identify.

What happened behind Clarence Road

At around 8.20am on Wednesday 29 July, the engineer was working on a BT telegraph pole to the rear of Clarence Road, Torpoint, when he was approached by an unknown man.

He had been setting up his equipment and then climbed the pole to carry out the work. While he was up there, he got into conversation with the man, who has been described as behaving in an intimidating and aggressive manner.

The man then walked away.

A short time later, the engineer was struck on the side of the head by a stone. His injuries needed medical treatment.

The man police want to identify

Officers have carried out a number of enquiries, but no suspects have been identified.

Police are keen to identify the man pictured, as he may have information which could help the investigation.

  • recognises the man in the image
