Truro police ask Malabar parents to have a word first

A gentle heads-up has gone out to families in one part of Truro, and it carries a friendly sort of deadline. Have the chat with your children about behaving in public, local officers have suggested, before they have to have it for you.

What has been reported

Truro, Perranporth and Tregony Police say there have been a number of low-level reports of anti-social behaviour at Behenna Drive park, in the Malabar area of Truro. The wording from officers is measured. This is nuisance rather than anything serious, and the stated aim is to head it off early.

A quiet word to parents

The main ask is aimed at families. Officers have suggested parents talk to their children about being a good citizen, and about not causing harassment, alarm or distress to people in the area. What stands out is the timing. Have that conversation at home, the team has said, before officers have to.

Who is working on it

Tackling this is not down to one body. Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team work alongside a range of other agencies, including housing providers, to bring down levels of nuisance and anti-social behaviour. The intention, officers say, is prevention rather than punishment.

For now there is no mention of enforcement, only the request, and the pointed reminder tucked inside it. Have the chat at home, before officers have one of their own.
