Not every pumpkin patch lets you bring the dog. One in Cornwall does, charges nothing to get in, and has just come out on top of a ranking covering the whole of the South West.

Pet food brand Fish4Dogs scored pumpkin patches across the region on whether they admit dogs, what a ticket costs, how many dog-friendly restaurants and hotels sit nearby, and their average visitor rating.

Trevaskis Farm, Cornwall

Trevaskis Farm took first place with a score of 7.1 out of 10.

The farm has an average Google Review score of 4.3 and is free to enter. But the figure that sets it apart is the 43 dog-friendly hotels and restaurants within five miles, by far the highest number of any patch in the top five.

The farm is yet to announce when this year’s pumpkin patch will open to the public. Last year’s display was themed as the ‘Trevaskis Cemetery’.

Hayles Fruit Farm, Gloucestershire

The pick-your-own patch at Hayles Fruit Farm in Winchcombe, near Cheltenham, scored 6.3 out of 10.

It is open this weekend (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October) and next (17 and 18 October) from 9am to 3pm. Halloween at Hayles then runs from Saturday 24 October to Saturday 31 October.

Tickets are £4. Visitors can expect a spooky walk around the lake, Tractor Ted activities, marshmallow toasting and loaded hot chocolates. There are 23 dog-friendly amenities nearby.

Lotmead Farm, Wiltshire

Lotmead Farm in Swindon completes the top five with 6.1 out of 10.

A ticket costs £2.64, which can be redeemed against the cost of your pumpkin. Dogs are welcome on leads, and picking runs throughout October.

A combo ticket, at £6.87 for children aged 3 to 15 or £4.76 for those aged 16 and over, adds a Halloween trail and access to the farm park.

Can dogs eat pumpkin?

Ryan Whitman, dog expert at Fish4Dogs, said: “Dogs are family, so it’s no surprise dog owners want to bring them along to this season’s spooky festivities.

“Pumpkins aren’t only great for carving scary faces into, they also have a lot of digestive benefits for dogs. Packed with fibre, pumpkin is commonly used in dog food to help dogs feel fuller and aid their dog’s bowel health.”

He had a warning for anyone planning to pick one for the dog, though.

“Make sure you’re not giving them raw pumpkin,” Ryan said. “The skin and stems of pumpkins are not digestible and will cause stomach irritation.

“Uncooked pumpkin flesh can also be hard on their digestion, so it’s much safer to give them cooked pumpkin or opt for foods and treats already enriched with pumpkin and paired with other delicious flavours.”

How the ranking was worked out

Fish4Dogs started with a list of patches from the Pumpkin Picking Directory, keeping only those with their own website and dog-friendly admission, and checked that each is open in October 2026.

Each was given a weighted score based on its number of Google Reviews and average rating, the cost of entry listed on its website, and the number of dog-friendly restaurants and hotels nearby, taken from Dog Owners Guide. The scores were then normalised to give the final rankings.

The full study findings cover the rest of the UK.
