Ned the lurcher has been turned down for one reason only
Ned has met plenty of people at RSPCA Cornwall. He wins most of them over inside a few minutes, all long legs and a wagging tail, and the visits tend to go well right up until the same sentence comes out. Lovely dog. Just a bit too big.

Long legs, long body, big heart
Ned doesn’t quite understand this, and it isn’t really a fault to talk him out of. He’s a lurcher, and that’s simply what a lurcher is built like: long legs, a long body and, by every account from the branch, an equally big heart. It’s the breed doing exactly what it’s meant to do, and he’s just one of a number of dogs in the branch’s care hoping someone looks past first impressions.
Making the most of his days out
While he waits for the right match, Ned isn’t just sitting in a kennel. He’s currently enjoying Doggy Days Out, heading off for the day with a volunteer for some proper adventures away from the branch. He loves getting out and about, especially a trip to the beach, and one recent outing ended on a café terrace with a sea view of his own, nose deep in the smell of coffee and cake rather than actually getting any.
What Ned is looking for
What he wants, according to RSPCA Cornwall, is straightforward. Someone who looks at those long legs, the big paws and the enormous heart, and decides he’s exactly the right size after all.

- Saturday 22 August
- 10am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm

If you can’t adopt him yourself, the branch is asking people to share his profile anyway, in case Ned’s person is out there and simply hasn’t come across him yet. For now, he’s still waiting to find out why the answer keeps coming back no, when everything else about him says yes.
