An Honourable Tradition for a Worthy Cause

Students from the Military and Protective Services programme at Duchy College Stoke Climsland are preparing for their annual Poppy Run, aiming to raise funds for the Royal British Legion and support the Armed Forces and Veteran community. This year’s event is set to take place on Monday, 11th November, with students rallying together for a meaningful day of running, walking, and giving back.

Each year, these students show their dedication to the Royal British Legion, raising both funds and awareness to honour those who have served. The Poppy Run allows students of all abilities to participate, completing mile loops around the college campus at their own pace, within a two-hour time frame.

A Chance to Give Back

Joseph Griffiths, a Level 3 Military and Protective Services student, spoke of the importance of the event to the college community. “The Poppy Run is an event we all look forward to each year,” Joseph said. “It’s an opportunity for us, alongside the whole college community, to give back to those who have given so much. We have been preparing for this run and want to do our bit to support the Armed Forces community.”

Last year’s efforts brought in over £4,000, and over the past four years, the students have raised more than £16,000. This year’s event is poised to contribute even more to this inspiring tradition.

A Community-Building Event

Jon Stone, Senior Study Programme Manager for Military and Protective Services, emphasised the impact of the Poppy Run on students’ futures. “Most of our students progress into various roles within the services; the Poppy Run gives them a glimpse into camaraderie and encourages them to continue contributing to the community,” Jon explained.

To support the students’ fundraising efforts, donations can be made via their JustGiving page. For more information about courses at Duchy College, visit their website.

The college’s commitment to the Royal British Legion continues to inspire, with students and staff uniting each year to support this meaningful cause.
