The most photographed front door in the country is getting a Cornish touch this Christmas.

Santa Trees from Cornwall has been crowned Champion Festive Wreath of the Year 2026 by the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) for its naturally decorated wreath. As part of the title, the business will supply the festive wreath for the door of No. 10 Downing Street.

A double win for Santa Trees

The overall champion title was only part of the story. Santa Trees also won Best Naturally Decorated Wreath, with Welford Christmas Tree Farm from Northamptonshire as runner-up, and took second place in Best Natural Wreath behind Dartmoor Christmas Trees from Devon.

The overall winners were not picked by a panel of judges. BCTGA members attending Competition Day voted for the best technically grown tree and the best crafted wreath from the entries, so the Cornish wreath was chosen by fellow growers and wreath makers.

How the champions were picked

This year’s competition was held on Wednesday 14 October at Sutton Hall Christmas Trees in Barcombe, East Sussex, with DigiTickets as headline sponsor. The annual awards have been running since 1999 and are open to the BCTGA’s 300 members across the UK.

There were more than 100 entries, and every tree entered was grown in the UK.

The trees going to Downing Street

York Christmas Trees from Yorkshire was named Champion Christmas Tree Grower of the Year 2026 with a Nordmann Fir, and will supply the real British-grown tree that stands outside No. 10. Runner-up Welford Christmas Tree Farm will supply the trees displayed inside.

The Photo of the Year award, on the theme ‘British Christmas Trees in the British Countryside’, went to Cadeby Tree Trust from Warwickshire, with Clayton Fold Christmas Tree Farm from Cheshire as runner-up. The winner will supply a Christmas tree for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Two new awards made their debut this year. Best Retail Tree and Best Retail Wreath were selected by the BCTGA Committee to recognise the trees and wreaths with the greatest overall appeal to shoppers. Croft Christmas Trees from North Yorkshire won the first Best Retail Tree award with a Nordmann Fir, and Bishops Offley Christmas Trees from Staffordshire took the first Best Retail Wreath award.

Why the growers want you to buy British

Russell Parkins, Chair of the BCTGA, said: “Competition Day is a real celebration of the skill, dedication and expertise of British Christmas tree growers. With over 100 entries, the standard this year was exceptionally high.

“Our members work throughout the year to produce trees and wreaths of the very highest quality, and all of our winners should be immensely proud of what they have achieved.

“Seeing our winners supply the trees and wreath that take pride of place at No. 10 Downing Street is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the very best of our industry. Every tree entered in the competition was grown here in the UK, and that’s a message we want shoppers to hear as they choose their tree this Christmas.”

Russell added that buying a real British-grown tree supports local growers and rural businesses, and that the ten or so years each tree spends growing provide a valuable home for wildlife.

The BCTGA was first set up in 1980, and its members follow a Code of Practice that promotes growing trees in an environmentally sustainable way. The association is managed by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, a registered farming charity. An average 6ft Christmas tree takes around 10 years to grow.
