Award-Winning Cornish Film to Screen in Cornwall for St Piran’s Day

This St Piran’s Day, cinemas across Cornwall are inviting people to celebrate Cornish culture, community and creativity with special screenings of The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay.

The Cornish documentary, which recently won Best Adventure & Exploration Film at the Kendal Mountain Festival, has already enjoyed multiple sold-out screenings across the UK.

Now, audiences have the chance to watch it on the big screen on Thursday 5th March for just £5.

A Cornish Story on Cornish Screens

Shot over two years beneath the rugged Cornish coastline, The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay follows a group of underground explorers known as The Carbis Bay Crew as they uncover the region’s forgotten mining heritage.

What begins as an adventure documentary develops into a portrait of friendship, resilience and Cornwall’s enduring character. With St Piran recognised as the patron saint of tin miners, the timing feels especially fitting.

Director Dan Simpkins and editor Angus Breton said:

“For us, this film has always been about Cornwall — its people, its history and the strength that comes from community. Releasing it around St Piran’s Day feels incredibly meaningful, because it honours the mining heritage that shaped this county and the connections that still sustain it today.”

The film has been drawing packed houses and sold-out screenings across Cornwall. Among those who attended a recent screening was Cornish BAFTA award-winning director Mark Jenkin, who said:

£5 Screenings Across Cornwall on 5th March

The film is partnering with WTW Cinemas to bring the documentary to all four of its cinemas, with tickets priced at £5 to mark St Piran’s Day.

Screenings on Thursday 5th March will take place at:

• White River Cinema, St Austell
• Regal Cinema, Wadebridge
• Lighthouse Cinema, Newquay
• Plaza Cinema, Truro

The documentary will be shown alongside two short films, King Putt and Frankenbiking. Together, the three films celebrate people finding purpose, joy and community in unexpected places.

With St Piran’s Day falling on 5th March, there are few more fitting ways to mark the occasion than watching a story set deep beneath Cornwall’s historic mines.
