Budock Vean Golf Course Reopens After Storm Damage

Budock Vean Hotel & Spa has confirmed the reopening of its golf course on Monday 6th April, following significant damage caused by Storm Goretti earlier this year.

Set along the Helford River, the James Braid-designed 9-hole, 18-tee course had been closed since January after the storm impacted large areas of the grounds.

Storm Impact and Recovery Work

While the hotel itself was unaffected, the course, which sits within 65 acres of sub-tropical gardens leading down to a private foreshore, suffered considerable damage.

Around 60 trees were lost during the storm, including Monterey Pines that dominate the Helford River landscape. Some of these trees were close to or over 100 years old.

Since then, the Budock Vean team, supported by specialist contractors, has been working to clear fallen timber, remove stumps and carry out groundworks to bring the course back into playable condition.

Community Effort Plays a Role

The recovery work also saw support from members of the Budock Vean community.

Darryl Reburn, General Manager, said: “We were truly gratified when, following a shout-out to our members, a number of them turned out on a beautifully sunny morning to help recover the remaining brushwood and more. Their support was invaluable and a wonderful demonstration of the Budock Vean community coming together.”

Course Reopens Earlier Than Expected

Thanks to the combined effort, the course is now reported to be in excellent condition, with fairways, sight lines and greens restored ahead of expectations.

Budock Vean management has thanked members and guests for their patience during the closure.

Looking ahead, there are plans to invest in replanting and environmental restoration. However, sourcing new trees is currently proving difficult due to high demand following Storm Goretti.

Darryl added: “The past few months have been a real team effort, and it has been inspiring to see the level of dedication from everyone involved. While the storm caused significant disruption, our focus has always been on restoring the course as quickly and carefully as possible. We are delighted to be reopening following the Easter bank holiday, and to welcome our members and guests back. Budock Vean is a special place to play, and it’s wonderful to see the majority of the course looking so good again.”
