Eight New Falmouth RNLI Volunteers Pass Final Test

Every time the Falmouth lifeboat launches, a team on the shore makes it happen. Eight more people have just earned the right to be part of it.

Falmouth RNLI has confirmed that eight volunteer shore crew members have passed their training and assessments, qualifying them to handle the launch and recovery of the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat.

Who passed

The newly qualified volunteers are Ben Proctor, Paul Harriman, Jack Northcote, Ben Godsall, Matt Cook, Jack Sutherland, Shannon Moran and Cody Burdett.

All eight completed shore crew, plant operators and head launcher training at the station. They were assessed by Regional Staff and passed every element.

Why shore crew matter

Coxswain Luke Wills praised the work that goes on out of public view. “It was a great effort by all at the station trainers and trainees alike, well done all,” he said.

“Shore crew work hard behind the scenes at Falmouth Lifeboat Station, providing safe launching, recovery, fuelling and berthing of our lifeboats. The role is vitally important to station operations and the availability of the lifeboat service in Falmouth.”

Without qualified shore crew on duty, the lifeboat cannot launch. Every shout depends on them.
