Published On: 25 February 2026Last Updated: 25 February 2026By

A 24 year old from Falmouth is preparing to take on one of the world’s most famous races, driven by a deeply personal reason.

Delfina Bounsall will run the 2026 London Marathon in support of InFocus, a charity that works with young people aged 16 to 25 with visual impairment and complex needs. She has set herself a fundraising target of £1,500, with all money raised going directly to the organisation’s programmes.

Originally from Cornwall, Delfina is a Digital Marketing Analyst and says the challenge has special meaning this year.

Running in Honour of Her Sister

Delfina and her younger sister Sienna have always shared a close bond. Sienna is currently a student at InFocus, where she receives specialist support tailored to young people with visual impairment and complex needs.

The charity supports young people aged 16 to 25, helping them develop confidence, independence and essential life skills. It also works with families across Cornwall to show that with the right support, a fulfilling and independent future is possible.

Delfina said: “My sister Sienna is a student at InFocus, and the support she receives there has been completely life-changing for our family. Watching her grow into such a confident, independent young woman as she enters adulthood is something I can hardly put into words. Growing up so close, we’ve always shared everything, and seeing her flourish has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.”

A Long-Held Dream With New Meaning

Running the London Marathon has been a long held ambition for Delfina, but she says this year’s race carries extra weight.

“The dedication, care and belief that InFocus shows every day has been a real source of motivation while I’ve been preparing for the London Marathon,” she said. “Their work reminds me why I’m running, and inspires me to push through every tough mile. I hope to raise as much as I can so they can continue giving young people the opportunities, confidence, and independence they deserve.”

As a sibling of someone with a visual impairment and complex needs, Delfina said finding the right support can feel overwhelming, particularly for families outside major cities.

“InFocus shows families that there are options out there,” she said. “They don’t just support students, they empower them. Knowing Sienna is surrounded by people who genuinely care and believe in her potential means everything to me.”

She added: “Sienna is my world. Running the London Marathon in her honour is my way of saying thank you, and of helping InFocus continue the incredible work they do for other young people and families.”

Charity Praises Fundraising Effort

Catherine Scott Baker, Principal at InFocus College, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Delfina for choosing to support InFocus through such an extraordinary challenge. For many families navigating the complexities of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, finding the right specialist provision can be overwhelming. When a young person’s needs are properly understood and supported, learning can truly flourish and the impact can be life-changing.

“Sienna’s journey is a wonderful example of what is possible, and we’re proud to see it inspire Delfina to take on the London Marathon.”

All funds raised through Delfina’s run will go directly to InFocus, supporting its work with young people and helping more families access the confidence, independence and opportunities they deserve.
