Fireworks bursting over Pendennis Castle in Falmouth at night

If you were looking forward to the fireworks at Falmouth Week this summer, you’ll know they never went off. Next Thursday brings one more chance, and it’s the only one the town will get this year.

Falmouth will light up the night sky on Thursday 5 November at 7pm with a special one-off display for Fireworks Night, launched from the Pendennis Castle site.

It has been organised by Falmouth Town Team, the partnership between Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID, with support from the Town Mayor of Falmouth. The display was arranged after this year’s Falmouth Week fireworks were cancelled in August.

Richard Gates, Falmouth Town Manager, said: “We know how much people missed the fireworks at Falmouth Week this year, so we’re delighted to be putting on a one-off display for Fireworks Night instead. It’s a brilliant way to bring the community together, and we’d encourage everyone to make an evening of it by heading into town afterwards to enjoy our fantastic restaurants and pubs.”

Where to watch the Falmouth fireworks

There are plenty of spots to take in the display:

  • The Hornworks at Pendennis Point, where temporary toilets will be provided
  • The seafront along Cliff Road
  • Custom House Quay
  • Church Street car park
  • Prince of Wales Pier

The Pendennis Castle site itself will be closed to the public on the night, as that’s where the fireworks will be launched. People are being asked to watch from a sensible distance at the recommended viewing points.

Road closures and parking at Pendennis Point

All roads around Pendennis Point will be closed between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, with access only to Pendennis Leisure car park until it reaches capacity.

Parking there is limited and works on a first come, first served basis. There’s no parking charge, but donations to Pendennis Leisure are encouraged instead. Reserved bays for Pendennis Leisure customers and blue badge holders will be clearly marked on the night.

The car park gates will be closed and locked promptly at 8pm, once the display is over.

Tips for the night

Visitors are encouraged to walk where possible, arrive early, follow directions from stewards and keep children close. Afterwards, the town centre is the place to head for a bite to eat or a warming drink.

The latest updates will be posted on the Falmouth fireworks page on the official Falmouth website, and on LoveFalmouth on Instagram and Falmouth Cornwall UK on Facebook.

A swimming pool for Falmouth

Councillor Alan Jewell, Town Mayor of Falmouth, has picked Pendennis Leisure as the cause he is backing, and the display doubles as a chance to support it.

Alan said: “It’s wonderful to see fireworks returning to Falmouth this year, and I’m proud to be supporting a display that the whole town can come together and enjoy. My chosen charity, Pendennis Leisure, is working hard to bring a swimming pool back to Falmouth, something so many residents have been asking for. Please give what you can, as every contribution helps get us closer to making it happen.”

Donations to Pendennis Leisure, in support of bringing a swimming pool back to Falmouth, can be made by calling Falmouth Town Council on 01326 315559 (Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm) or by emailing [email protected].
