Fletchr Fletchr’s new EP tour lands in Falmouth this October

There’s a moment on Fletchr Fletchr’s new single where the drums drop out and it’s just a voice, alone, working out how to hold onto something good. That’s the mood running through the London indie four-piece’s next chapter, and this October it brings them to Falmouth for the first time on a headline tour.

A more hopeful ‘Streetlights’

The band have shared their new single, “Streetlights”, a song about falling in love and then doing the harder work of keeping that feeling alive. Anthemic vocal melodies sit over high-octane drums, driven by vocalist Rohan Fletcher’s lyrics about navigating the ups and downs of a relationship without losing the initial spark.

“‘Streetlights’ is about falling in love,” Rohan says. “Feeling like everything was aligned for you, then dealing with keeping that initial connection as alight as possible through the ups and downs of a relationship. ‘Streetlights’ feels special, it’s a much more hopeful take on this topic than we’ve written before.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Maisy Banks, continues the expressive, dance-led storytelling of the band’s previous release “Fucking With My Head”, with an interpretive dancer reflecting the song’s lyrical depth.

On The Island We Call Home

“Streetlights” is the first taste of Fletchr Fletchr’s second EP, On The Island We Call Home, out on Friday 21st August via Polydor. It follows their debut EP, We All Feel the Same, released last October, and Rohan says the new record marks a step up in ambition.

“On The Island We Call Home feels like our most polished piece of work yet,” he explains. “While still completely self produced, we’ve refined what we learnt from We All Feel The Same into a much heavier hitting project that was curated to translate on the live stage. We dive deeper than we have before on this EP, and it’s only the start of our next chapter. The themes we explore are more mature and we approach them with a better sense of what’s going on around us. You can hear a bit more angst and anger in this new set of songs.”

The EP arrives after a summer that has already taken the band to the Isle of Wight Festival and Metronome in Prague, plus a support slot for Dogstar at the Roundhouse in Camden. Rolling Stone UK have called them a band with “a thrilling sound and lofty ambitions” on the path to the big time.

The Falmouth date, and the rest of the run

Cornwall has already had a taste of Fletchr Fletchr this summer, with the band playing both Boardmasters and Tunes in the Park. This autumn they return properly, with a full UK headline tour that lands at The Cornish Bank in Falmouth on Sunday 4th October, the last date of the run.

The tour also takes in Exeter, London’s Chats Palace, Stockton, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Norwich before the band make their way down to Cornwall. Tickets are on sale now via fletchrfletchr.com.

Two songwriters, and how bereavement bonded them

At the centre of Fletchr Fletchr are Rohan Fletcher and Adam Sanders, two chief songwriters the band describe as brothers in all but blood. The pair began making music together in sixth form, helping each other through solo careers before going through breakups at the same time and forming the band as a way of working through it.

They were bonded further by the death of Rohan’s dad, who Rohan describes as the band’s biggest fan and source of encouragement. “That’s when he became a Fletcher,” Rohan says of Adam. His memory, Rohan adds, stands firm in the band’s pursuit of “creativity, friendship and togetherness through anything that’s thrown at them,” and shapes how they see what they’re doing now. “We’re doing it in the name of something now, rather than just for ourselves.”

University friend Oli Williams plays drums, and George Green, on bass, contributed to the songwriting process for the first time on the new EP. After selling out a run of grassroots venues, the band’s debut headline tour concluded at a sold-out Dome in Tufnell Park last autumn. A debut album, Rohan has made clear, is already in their sights.
