Police careers event comes to Falmouth’s Moor next Tuesday

Anyone who has ever wondered what it takes to join the police, or what jobs exist beyond the uniform on the beat, has a chance to ask in person in Falmouth next week. A police engagement van is being parked up in the middle of town for a few hours, and the people staffing it want to talk.

When and where

The Positive Action team from Devon & Cornwall Police will set up on The Moor in Falmouth on Tuesday 28 July, between 10am and 2pm. Members of the public from all backgrounds and lived experiences are being invited to come along and explore the range of opportunities within policing.

More roles than you might expect

The event was organised by PC John Holland, who wants people to know the force is about far more than front-line officers.

“There are a vast amount of roles available across the policing family, whether you’re interested in becoming a police officer, PCSO, member of police staff, volunteer, or simply want to learn more about the work of Devon & Cornwall Police,” John said. “The Positive Action team will be on hand to answer questions, provide advice and explain the recruitment process.”

The team is also keen to hear from people already in the job elsewhere. “We are also encouraging serving police officers who may be considering a transfer to Devon & Cornwall Police to come and speak with us,” John said. “Our team can discuss the opportunities available and how we can support your move to our force.”

Curious as well as committed

You do not need to arrive with your mind made up. “Everyone is welcome, whether you’re actively considering a career in policing or simply curious about the opportunities available,” John said. “Come along, meet the team, ask questions and discover how you could play a part in policing our communities. The event forms part of our ongoing commitment to building stronger relationships with communities across Cornwall. So if you’re able to, please pop along, we look forward to meeting you.”

Visitors will also get the chance to meet members of the wider policing family and find out more about the work being carried out to keep communities safe.

What Positive Action is for

Positive Action is about making sure everyone has access to the same information, opportunities and support. The team works closely with under-represented communities to help remove barriers, build confidence and encourage applications from people who may never have pictured themselves in the job.

Anyone who cannot make it to The Moor can still look through the current vacancies at Devon & Cornwall Police.
