Cornish Tea lands in ASDA in selected Cornwall stores

Cornwall’s supermarket shelves have a new local resident. Cornish Tea and Coffee, the family firm behind the bright orange Smugglers Brew, has made it into ASDA. For now it’s stocked in selected Cornwall stores, with the company hoping the rollout spreads from there.

Where to spot it

The tea is on shelves in selected ASDA stores across Cornwall. The packaging is bold enough that it should be easy to pick out on a weekly shop, and the company says more stores could follow.

From a kitchen-table chat

Like a lot of Cornish businesses, this one started small. In 2012, Duncan Bond got talking with his sister-in-law, who was after a proper local tea and couldn’t find one. Six months later the first box was packed. Bold, bright and orange, Smugglers Brew was the only product they made at the time. That one brew set everything else in motion.

A family business with its own factory

What began around a kitchen table is now a full family business, with a factory right here in Cornwall. The team makes all the tea and coffee in-house, including one of the UK’s first plastic-free tea bags. The range has grown to more than 50 products, made by a team of over 30 Cornish staff.

Where it’s heading

Sustainability sits at the centre of the plan. The company points to its plastic-free tea bags and future-friendly packaging as signs of the direction it wants to take. Cornish Tea and Coffee already turns up in artisan cafés, five-star hotels and kitchens across the UK and beyond. Getting into ASDA in Cornwall is the latest step.
