This Truro Brewery Could Be About to Change Cornish Beer Forever

A family-run brewery near Truro is asking the public for help to fund its next big step, and if successful, it will become the first brewery in Cornwall to use dedicated serving tanks.

Mason Brewing Co, based at Threemilestone Industrial Estate, has launched a crowdfunder with a target of £10,000. The money will be used to purchase two 500-litre serving tanks and a new fermenter, with the aim of increasing brewing capacity and improving efficiency.

Nearly Two Years In, Demand Is Outpacing Supply

Founded by Mike Mason and Lisa Mason, the brewery opened its taproom in May 2024, with brewing getting underway the following month. In less than two years, the team has sold more than 45,000 pints and built a loyal local following.

That growth, however, has brought its own challenges. The brewery is now operating close to capacity, and much of the team’s time is taken up managing and filling smaller kegs rather than brewing.

Mike, Founder and Head Brewer, said: “We’ve been blown away by the support since opening. Less than two years in, demand for our beer has grown faster than we expected. Right now, we’re spending a lot of time cleaning, filling and managing kegs — time we’d much rather spend brewing more beer and developing new releases.”

What Serving Tanks Actually Do

Serving tanks allow beer to be served directly from larger vessels, cutting down on handling, improving freshness, and freeing up time for the brew team. While the approach is common in larger operations, it is rarely used at smaller independent sites, and no brewery in Cornwall currently uses them.

If the crowdfunder hits its target, that would change. Mason Brewing Co would become the first in the county to operate this way, a notable milestone for one of Cornwall’s newest independent breweries.

A Community Hub With Bigger Plans

Beyond the beer itself, Mason Brewing Co has become a community fixture since opening. The taproom is dog-friendly, hosts regular events, and serves an ever-changing lineup of beers brewed just metres from the bar.

Mike added: “Adding serving tanks and another fermenter will allow us to keep our core beers flowing, improve consistency, and continue growing as an independent Cornish brewery. It’s a big step for us, and we’re excited to bring our community along for the journey.”
