What’s Happening at The Idle Rocks and St Mawes Hotel This Spring?

Set on the water in the heart of St Mawes, The Idle Rocks and St Mawes Hotel are welcoming spring with a series of seasonal events and dining experiences on Cornwall’s south coast.

From St Piran’s Day celebrations to Easter activities and a new seasonal lunch menu, the hotels are inviting guests to slow down and enjoy life around the harbour and the wider Roseland Peninsula.

St Piran’s Day celebrations

St Piran’s Day will be marked on Friday 6th March with a Cornish celebration at the St Mawes Hotel.

From 7pm, Du Hag Owr of Portscatho will perform Cornish shanties in the bar, with guests and visitors invited to gather for what is described as a relaxed knees-up celebrating Cornwall’s patron saint. Local drinks and pasties will be served as part of the evening.

A long lunch for Mother’s Day

On Sunday 15th March, the focus turns to Mother’s Day, with a long lunch served overlooking the water at The Idle Rocks.

Alongside the usual à la carte offering, Executive Chef Guy Owen will serve a selection of traditional Sunday roasts. Dishes include roast leg of lamb with wild garlic, spring greens and Yorkshire pudding, roast pork with apricot and sage stuffing, and a nut roast pithivier, all accompanied by seasonal vegetables and gravies.

Desserts include apple tarte tatin for two with winter-spiced ice cream and sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch clotted cream.

Easter across both hotels

Easter weekend, running from Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th April, will see activities take place at both The Idle Rocks and St Mawes Hotel.

On Saturday 4th April, children can take part in an Easter Egg Making Class led by pastry chef Stuart Pate. The session will be held in the St Mawes Hotel Courtyard Room. The class includes a juice and sandwich for children, while parents can enjoy drinks or lunch at the hotel.

Easter Sunday begins with handcrafted eggs served at breakfast ahead of the morning service. Classic roasts will also be added to the à la carte menu for lunch.

An Easter egg hunt will take place in the village from 11am on Easter Sunday, winding through St Mawes harbour and inviting families to explore together.

New spring lunch menu

The Idle Rocks has also introduced a new set lunch menu, available Wednesday to Saturday.

The menu will sit alongside the seafood tasting menu and à la carte selection. Dishes include clam chowder with smoked haddock and potato, grilled megrim sole with lemongrass, ginger and kaffir lime, and BBQ butter-poached cabbage with feta and crispy onion.

To finish, apple and rhubarb crumble is served with granola and fresh basil.
