A 999 call off Carlyon Bay

On Friday 26 June, the coastguard tasked Fowey RNLI to launch after a 999 call came in from the crew of a 16ft Bow Rider just off Carlyon Bay. The boat had three people on board and had run into engine trouble.

The crew had dropped anchor, but they were worried it was not holding. With the wind picking up, they were drifting towards the rocks.

Atlantic 85 to the scene

Fowey’s volunteers launched their Atlantic 85 lifeboat and reached the casualty vessel at 7:15pm.

The lifeboat mechanic, Oli Luck, managed to get the engine started again. The lifeboat then escorted the boat back to Fowey.

From there, the Bow Rider made its own way back to its mooring in Golant.
