Fowey Lifeboat Rescues Stranded Speedboat Near Fowey
On Friday, 26 July, Falmouth Coastguard received a call for assistance involving a 6.5m speedboat that had broken down between Gribben Head and Polkerris. The boat, with four people on board, was left anchored and unable to move.
Quick Response from Fowey Lifeboat
Responding promptly to the distress call, Fowey’s volunteer crew launched their inshore lifeboat at 2.25pm. Their mission was to assess and provide aid to the stranded vessel. In the meantime, an 8m rib, having picked up the Pan Pan VHF message, had already begun towing the disabled speedboat towards Fowey Harbour.
Safe Escort to Harbour
The lifeboat crew arrived at the scene, just north of Cannis, at 2.35pm. Upon arrival, they ensured the safety of both the speedboat and the assisting rib. The lifeboat then escorted both vessels safely back into Fowey Harbour, completing the operation without any further incident.
The swift action by Fowey’s lifeboat crew and the timely assistance from the 8m rib ensured a safe and efficient resolution to the potentially hazardous situation.
