Late Night Yacht Callout on the Fowey River Sparks Rescue Response

Something was wrong on board a yacht moored on the Fowey river in the early hours of Monday morning, and it set off a chain of events that brought two emergency teams out into the dark.

St Austell Coastguard and Fowey RNLI were called out together to help an unwell person aboard the vessel. The tasking came in during the early hours of Monday 4th May 2026.

Casualty brought safely ashore

Once the teams reached the yacht, the focus was on getting the casualty off the water and into the hands of medical responders. The Coastguard team brought the person ashore and provided casualty care while waiting for the ambulance service to arrive.

St Austell Coastguard described it as a great team effort and wished the casualty a speedy recovery.

The team noted that the people on board made the right decision by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard. That is the number to use for any coastal emergency, whether you are on the water, on the cliffs, or on the beach.
