Weekly Quiet Meet Ups Launch in Hayle This April
A new weekly meet up is launching in Hayle later this month, offering a calm and welcoming space for people who identify as quiet, introverted, shy or highly sensitive.
Organised by Quiet Connections, the sessions will begin on Monday 20th April and take place every Monday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Annexe in the Hayle Day Care Centre on Commercial Road.

A Different Kind of Social Space
The meet ups are designed to be pressure-free, giving people the chance to connect in a way that feels comfortable to them. There is no expectation to be chatty or outgoing, with organisers encouraging a relaxed approach where “it’s okay to talk and it’s okay to be quiet too”.
The Annexe was chosen for its calm setting, overlooking the river, where attendees can spend time watching birds or simply enjoying a quieter environment.
The sessions will be led by local volunteers who understand the challenges of navigating social situations as quieter individuals.
Personal Experiences Behind the Group
Sue, a local Quiet Connector helping to run the group, said:
“Attending Quiet Connections meet ups has really made a difference to my rather quiet life… I am so looking forward to having a Hayle meet up in the town I have called home for nearly 17 years, but hadn’t found the courage to venture out into the community until I discovered Quiet Connections”.
Hayley Stanton, Director of Quiet Connections, added:
“I want to celebrate the volunteers in Hayle. It’s been wonderful to see people who once came along to their first Meet Ups with us a little unsure, now working together to bring a new Meet Up in Hayle to life, so others in their local community can benefit in the same way. I’ve seen how much kindness and support they show each other, and I know anyone who joins the Hayle Meet Up will be warmly welcomed”.
What to Expect Each Week
Those attending can expect a relaxed and flexible environment, including:
- A “go at your own pace” approach, with no pressure to participate
- Optional activities such as colouring and word searches
- Conversation starter prompts for those who want help beginning chats
- Free refreshments including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits
- Opportunities to take part in other shared experiences like walks, birdwatching and trips
People are also welcome to bring their own books or creative projects if they prefer a quieter experience.

Open to Anyone Who Feels It Fits
The meet ups are free and open to anyone who identifies as quiet, introverted, shy or highly sensitive. There is no need to register in advance, and newcomers can simply drop in. However, signing up beforehand allows organisers to offer a friendly introduction and answer any questions.
More information, including how to sign up, can be found on the Quiet Connections Hayle page, or by emailing [email protected].
Growing Across Cornwall
The Hayle group is part of a wider network of Quiet Connections meet ups already running in Truro, Liskeard, Helston, Falmouth, Penzance, Redruth, Camborne and Wadebridge, as well as online. More locations are expected to follow as volunteer interest grows.
The expansion has been supported in part by funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, helping Quiet Connections continue its work creating inclusive spaces across Cornwall.
