Cornwall Swimmers Raise Over £2,200 in Charity Challenge

Fundraising challenges held in three Cornwall pools have raised £2,202.11 for charity as part of Swimathon 2026.

Swimmers took part at leisure centres in Truro, Bodmin and Newquay, supporting Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie and the Swimathon Foundation.

Cornwall Effort Part of Record-Breaking Year

Across the UK, GLL hosted 1,362 fundraising challenges in 87 of its managed pools, surpassing the 1,054 events held in 2025. The total raised nationally reached a record £141,000.

Participants in Cornwall joined swimmers across the country in taking on a range of distances. Individual challenges included 500m, 1.5k, 2.5k, Swimathon 5k and Triple 5k, while teams opted for 1.5k, 2.5k and 5k events.

Breakdown of Cornwall Fundraising

The funds raised across the three locations were:

• Bodmin Leisure Centre: £1,225.86
• Truro Leisure Centre: £726.25
• Newquay Leisure World: £250

With 1362 taking part nationally, Swimathon 2026 is the biggest challenge of its kind to be hosted in GLL pools, and I’m delighted that three in Cornwall were involved in such a fantastic cause.”
