Story Lab Brings Week of Literary Events to Helston
Helston is about to get a lot more imaginative. From Saturday 23rd May, the town becomes a playground for storytellers, readers, and anyone who has ever fancied themselves a writer.
The Writers’ Block and Trevow Helston are teaming up to launch Story Lab, a week-long programme of literary events and activities running across the town.

What’s On
The programme covers a lot of ground. There’s a free pop-up Story Lab, sessions exploring identity, poetry play, Cornish stories cooked up in the kitchen, a Story Quest Day in Coronation Park, and chances for people to share their own words.
Across the week, expect workshops, interactive trails, performances and drop-ins running in venues around Helston. Whether you’re five or 85, the organisers reckon there’s something for everyone.
Who’s Taking Part
The line-up of writers, performers and artists includes Cathy Rentzenbrink, Keith Sparrow, SCAMP and Tamara Rosenwyn, among others.
What the Organisers Say
Helen Reynolds, Director of The Writers’ Block, said: “We are over the moon to be working closely with Trevow Helston to bring a week of stories and fun to the town! Expect colourful characters, enchanting worlds and costumes galore!”
Guy Watson, Founder and Director of Trevow Helston, said: “Story Lab is something completely new and exciting for us and we are so delighted to be working with The Writers’ Block on this project. From pop-up installations for all the family to creative writing masterclasses and open mics, we’ve been planning the project for months and cannot wait to open the doors.”

Behind the Project
Story Lab has been made possible thanks to support from the Cornwall Community Foundation through the Tanner Phoenix Trust, Helston Town Council and Arts Council England. The funding has allowed the partners to put on a mix of free and affordable events across the week.
The Writers’ Block describes itself as the writing centre for Cornwall, a place to write and a place to build confidence and skills in writing. Trevow Helston is a Community Interest Company supporting creative arts and community engagement projects across the South Kerrier Community Area Partnership, Helston and the surrounding parishes.
Story Lab opens on Saturday 23rd May.
