Same oath, different patch: Devon and Cornwall Police’s Q&A

Jess used to be a funeral director. Now she’s a sergeant, and her old job title sits right next to her new one on a recruitment poster asking other serving officers whether they fancy a change of scenery. Today, Devon and Cornwall Police is opening up a live online Q&A for anyone in policing elsewhere who has thought about finishing their career on this patch instead.

A live session for officers thinking about a move

The force is hosting an informal online Q&A aimed squarely at transferee officers, serving police officers already elsewhere in the country who are weighing up a transfer rather than starting again from scratch. There’s no pitch to sit through and no assessment centre feel to it. It’s billed as a chance to ask questions directly and get a feel for what the move would actually involve.

What’s on the table

The session covers four things. Officers can find out about current transferee opportunities within the force, get a look at the career pathways and specialist roles open to them once they’ve made the move, meet members of the recruitment team face to face (or screen to screen), and ask whatever they need to about how the transfer process itself works.

The pitch, in the force’s own words, is straightforward: for anyone considering their next move, it’s a chance to discover what makes policing in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly so rewarding.

How to join

The Q&A runs today, Monday 24 August, at 1pm. It’s free to attend and officers can register for a place online ahead of time.

Same oath, different patch, as the force puts it. Whether that’s enough to tempt an officer away from wherever they’re currently based is, as ever, a question only they can answer.
