What happened at Nanjizal
The Land’s End Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was tasked at 14:08 on 22 July to reports of a dog that had fallen over the cliff at Nanjizal. The dog’s owner had climbed down after the animal, and when the rest of the family lost sight of them, they called for help and raised the alarm.
Both Sennen Cove lifeboats were sent to the scene. Given the location of the dog and owner, the Coastguard team stood by at the top of the cliffs in case they were needed to assist.
Lifeboats take over
The RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat held position slightly offshore to act as a communication relay for both its own Inshore Lifeboat and for the Coastguard team on the clifftop. The Inshore Lifeboat then went in to assess the dog and owner, retrieve them both, and take them back to Sennen Cove to meet the rest of the family.
The incident was logged as the Land’s End team’s 26th callout of the year.
If you see someone in danger
The Coastguard has repeated its standard reminder off the back of the rescue. If you see someone in danger on the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
