Diggers are in at Langarth for Truro’s new all-weather pitch

Right now it is a stretch of bare red earth with a digger parked on it. By spring next year it is due to be an all-weather football pitch, and three local clubs already have their names on it.

What is being built

Work is underway on a new 3G community pitch at the Truro Sports Hub at Langarth, on the edge of Truro. The all-weather community facility is the next phase of the Sports Hub.

Dan Greenough, Facilities and Finance Manager at Cornwall FA, went along to the site to see the work in progress.

Who is paying for it

The pitch is part funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, which has provided a £746,000 grant towards the cost.

“Cornwall FA is excited to see work start on another community 3G pitch in the Duchy,” said Dan. “We have been working hard in the background with various stakeholders to support the development of football and sport participation and these kinds of facilities allow that to happen.”

The clubs lined up to use it

Local clubs were approached as part of Cornwall Council’s funding application to the Football Foundation. Three have been identified as anchor clubs for the project: Threemilestone Football Club, Truro City Youth Football Club and Grasshoppers Football Club.

Cornwall FA has shared more about the Truro Sports Hub community pitch on its website, and says it can’t wait to see teams taking to the pitch.

Construction is due to be completed in spring 2027. Until then, the only thing churning up the surface at Langarth is the digger.
