Bude Fire Station’s rainy open day raises £4,000 for charity

Sheets of rain fell across Bude for much of the day, but that did nothing to stop people turning out to look round the fire engines, and it certainly didn’t stop them digging into their pockets.

A total of £4,000 despite the weather

Bude Community Fire Station has announced that its open day brought in a total of £4,000, despite downpours throughout the day. The figure is being split between three chosen charities, all with a strong local connection.

Where the money is going

The largest share, £2,040, goes to The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired members of the UK’s fire family.

1st Bude Scout Group receives £980, money that will go towards its new HQ and ongoing fundraising.

The final £980 goes to AdSurf, the Bude-based charity that provides accessible and adaptive surfing sessions for people with disabilities, mental health conditions and neurodiversity.

Thanks to the businesses and volunteers

The fire station has thanked the local businesses who donated raffle and tombola prizes, along with all the helpers who made the day possible. It reserved its biggest thanks for the community itself, saying the day “wouldn’t be possible without you all.”

“Can’t wait to see you again next year,” the station added.
