Cornwall weather: Monday 14 September, 21°C before a breezy week

The warmest day of the week turns out to be the grey one, and the sunshine that follows arrives with a stiffer breeze and a run of early showers. Tonight

The overcast skies carry on into the night, with the temperature holding at 16°C. A mild, quiet evening before the pattern starts to shift.

Tuesday and into midweek

Tuesday (15 September) swaps solid cloud for sunny intervals, but the brighter look comes with a catch. The high slips to 19°C, gusts climb to 29mph, and there is a 60% chance of light showers first thing around 6am. Wednesday (16 September) holds a similar shape, 18°C with sunny intervals and gusts of 27mph, and again a 60% chance of showers early on.

Thursday (17 September) is the one to watch. Sunny intervals stay in the mix, but the chance of rain rises to 80% around dawn, the high dips to 18°C, and gusts reach 32mph, the strongest of the week.

The weekend ahead

Friday (18 September) settles into plain cloud, 19°C, with only a 20% chance of rain by early evening and gusts easing back to 26mph. Saturday (19 September) looks much the same, cloudy and 19°C, with a 30% chance of a shower before dawn. Sunday (20 September) is the pick of the run, sunny intervals, 20°C, and just a 10% chance of rain, with the wind dropping to 22mph.

So the week rather turns on its head. The grey start is the mildest, the brighter middle is the breeziest, and it is Thursday’s dawn, not the weekend, that carries the real rain.
