Cornwall weather: Sunday 16 August, sunshine before midweek showers
If you have been holding out for a clean summer’s day to get down to the coast, this is the one to take. Cornwall starts the week in full sunshine before the cloud and rain edge back in, so today and Monday are the two to make the most of. Here is how the week’s weather is shaping up across the county.

Today
Sunday brings unbroken sunshine, with the temperature climbing to a high of 22C and dipping to around 17C. It feels a touch cooler than the thermometer suggests, closer to 20C at its warmest, so a light layer is worth having if you are out for the whole day. Rain is not a concern, with the chance sitting below 5%. A northerly breeze keeps things fresh, gusting up to 21mph from the north-northwest.
Tonight
The clear skies give way to partly cloudy conditions overnight. It stays mild for the time of year, with the low holding at about 18C, and the chance of rain remains below 5%. A comfortable night, then, with nothing to keep you indoors.
Monday
Monday is the warmest day of the run, reaching 23C under sunny intervals. There is a 40% chance of a shower first thing around 6am, so an early start might catch a spot of rain before the brighter spells take over. The wind eases a little, gusting to 19mph, and the low overnight sits near 18C.

Tuesday
The change begins here. Tuesday turns overcast, with the high slipping to 22C and grey skies for much of the day. The chance of rain rises to 50% around dawn, and the wind picks up again to gusts of 23mph. Not a washout, but the run of clear sunshine is over.
Wednesday
Sunny intervals return on Wednesday, though the temperature drops to a high of 20C and an overnight low of 14C. The wind is the story of the day, gusting up to 28mph, the strongest of the week. Rain chance sits at 40% in the early hours.
Thursday
Thursday is the wettest day ahead, with light showers and a 70% chance of rain around 6am. The high stays at 20C, the low falls to 13C, and gusts reach 27mph. Keep the waterproofs within reach if you are heading out.

Friday and the weekend
Friday brightens back up to sunny intervals at 20C, with a 40% chance of rain overnight and gusts of 23mph. Saturday follows on cloudy, again topping out at 20C, with a 40% chance of a shower first thing and the same 23mph gusts. The warmth of the early week is behind us by then, and the outlook settles into that familiar late-summer mix of cloud, sun and passing showers rather than anything fixed.
