Cornwall weather: Thursday 10 September, rain gives way to sun

If you are heading out this morning, take a coat. Cornwall starts the day grey and damp, with rain most likely around breakfast and a blustery edge to the air, before the skies slowly sort themselves out and hand us a brighter, warmer run into the weekend.

Today

Truro and much of Cornwall wake up to an overcast Thursday, with around a 60 percent chance of light rain near 6am and cloud hanging on through the morning. The high reaches 19°C, though in the wind it will feel closer to 17°C. The breeze is the other thing to note, gusting up to 28 mph, the strongest of the next few days. Temperatures settle back to around 14°C as the day goes on.

Tonight

The cloud breaks up a little overnight, turning partly cloudy before mist settles in across lower ground. It stays mild, holding at about 14°C, so there is no real chill to come with the dark.

Friday

This is where things turn a corner. Friday 11 September brings sunny intervals, a high of 20°C and only a 20 percent chance of rain. The wind eases right back too, gusting just 15 mph, the calmest day in the forecast. Nights are cooler now, with Friday’s low dropping to 11°C.

The weekend

The weekend holds onto the better weather. Saturday 12 September keeps the sunny intervals going and nudges up to 21°C, though the breeze returns with gusts around 26 mph and a 30 percent chance of a shower. Sunday 13 September turns overcast again and carries a higher 50 percent chance of rain, but stays warm at 21°C. If you are planning to be out on the coast, Saturday looks the brighter of the two.

The week ahead

The mild, changeable pattern runs on. Monday 14 September stays overcast and warm at 21°C with little rain around, then Tuesday 15 September brightens back to sunny intervals at 20°C. By Wednesday 16 September the cloud builds again and temperatures ease to 18°C, the coolest day of the outlook. There is plenty of back and forth still to come in the week’s weather, so the coat and the sunglasses are both worth keeping by the door.
