Cornwall weather: Wednesday 14 October, 20°C before a cooler Friday
Make the most of the warm spell while it is here, because Cornwall is about to feel properly mild for the middle of October before the weather pulls the rug out by Friday. The Met Office’s forecast for South West England, which covers Cornwall, has warm sunshine and a breeze to start, then a sharp cooling with the first frosty nights not far behind. Here is how the county’s weather shapes up.

Today
Any early mist and fog patches clear away quickly to leave a mostly dry day, though there is the chance of a few fleeting light showers. Some sunshine is likely, but cloud will build for many of us, especially inland. A breezy south-westerly wind runs through it all, and it stays rather warm with a high of 18°C.
Tonight
It stays mostly dry through the evening, then thickening cloud may bring occasional light showery rain and drizzle at times overnight. It turns rather windy in coastal regions and stays very mild, with the temperature only dipping to around 13°C.
Thursday
Thursday is the warm high point of the week. It is largely cloudy and quite breezy with some light showers, but occasional brighter spells are possible, and any sunshine will feel unseasonably warm for the time of year. The high climbs to 20°C, a figure you do not often see in Cornwall in mid-October.

Friday to the weekend
The turn comes quickly. Rain arrives on Thursday night, then Friday is breezy and noticeably colder with sunny spells and the odd shower. After that the picture settles down, staying largely dry into the weekend with some sunshine by day. The catch is the nights, which turn cold and locally frosty.
So the warmth has a short shelf life. From Thursday’s unseasonable 20°C to frost on the grass within a couple of days, this is a week that reminds you which season Cornwall is actually in.
