Cornwall weather: Wednesday 2 September, grey and breezy start
Planning your week around the skies? Keep a light jacket within reach. Cornwall opens September under a grey lid of cloud, with a brisk wind off the sea and showers hovering at the edges. Brighter spells are on the way, but you will have to wait a day or two for them. Here is how the Cornwall weather looks from Truro over the next few days.

Today (Wednesday 2 September)
Overcast is the word for today, with low cloud sitting over Truro and much of the county through the morning. Temperatures climb to a high of around 21°C, though the wind takes the edge off, so it feels closer to 19°C when you are out in it. There is a 40% chance of rain first thing, around 6am, easing as the day goes on, and gusts reach up to 30mph. Not a washout, but a grey and blustery way to start the month.
Tonight
The cloud stays put after dark. Skies remain overcast into the night, and it holds notably mild for the time of year, with the temperature slipping no lower than 18°C. If you are heading out this evening, you will barely notice a chill.
Thursday 3 September
Thursday brings a lift. Sunny intervals break through the cloud and it edges up to the warmest day of the spell at 22°C, with an overnight low of 18°C. The catch is the morning, when there is a 50% chance of a shower around 6am, so the brighter afternoon is the one to aim for. Winds ease a touch, gusting to 26mph.

Friday 4 September
Cloud returns to close the working week. Friday turns overcast again with a high of 21°C, but the night draws in cooler, dropping to 12°C, the chilliest of the run. There is a 40% chance of rain in the early morning, near 7am, and the wind picks back up with gusts to 31mph, the strongest of the week.
The weekend and outlook
The weekend is where things settle. Saturday looks the pick of the days, with sunny intervals, just a 10% chance of rain and the lightest winds of the week at 15mph, topping out at 20°C. Sunday clouds back over, overcast once more at 21°C with a 30% chance of a shower by early evening and gusts back up to 23mph. So the grey that opens the week never quite lets go, but Saturday leaves a clear window before the cloud rolls in again.
