If half-term has you keeping an eye on the sky this week, the good news is it is about to calm down. A showery, autumnal start gives way to something far more settled as high pressure builds in, though you may be wiping a bit of mist off the windscreen by the weekend. Here is the Met Office picture for Cornwall and the wider South West.

Today

It is a classic bit of changeable Cornwall weather to begin with. A cloudy morning in the west brings showers along the northern coasts of Cornwall and Devon, pushing inland later in the day, while further east stays brighter with just a few light showers into the afternoon. Winds are lighter than they have been of late, though it still feels cool in places. The high reaches 16°C.

Tonight

The showers ease overnight as the cloud breaks up, letting some clearer spells through. Winds fall very light, and that is the recipe for mist and fog forming, mostly across the east. It turns chilly too, down to a minimum of 7°C.

Thursday

Any early mist and fog lifts into patchy cloud first thing, then brighter spells break through in the afternoon with light winds. Temperatures sit around average for the end of October, with a high of 15°C.

Friday to Sunday

High pressure takes charge across the south and keeps things settled right through to the end of the weekend. The trade-off for the calm, dry days is more mist and fog overnight and during the mornings, so it is worth leaving a little longer on the early journeys. With Halloween falling on Saturday 31 October, the settled theme is good news for anyone heading out, once the morning murk has lifted.
