Plain-an-Gwarry roundabout retired as Redruth plans new play kit

The roundabout at Plain-an-Gwarry Park has carried a lot of small hands over a lot of years. It is now coming out of the play area for good.

Regular safety inspections have found the equipment is no longer safe to use, so it is being taken out of the park in Redruth rather than patched up again.

Why the roundabout is going

Redruth Town Council said the roundabout had given “many years of hard service” before reaching the point where it had to be retired.

“Regular inspections have shown that the equipment is now unsafe to use and, for safety reasons, it will be removed from the play area,” the council said.

A replacement is already lined up

The gap is not meant to be permanent. The council says the roundabout will be replaced later this year as part of planned improvements to its play facilities.

That work is being carried out alongside scheduled upgrades at East End Park, so the two sets of improvements land together.

What the council says

“While we’re sorry to see this much-loved piece of equipment go, we’re excited to share that it will be replaced later this year as part of planned improvements to our play facilities,” the council said.

“Thank you for your patience while these improvements are delivered. We look forward to welcoming families back to enjoy the new equipment.”

No firmer date has been given for when the new equipment will appear, beyond later this year.
