Police Issue Advice on Preventing Quad Bike and Trailer Theft

Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team has issued a community awareness notice warning that quad bike and trailer thefts are still taking place across Devon and Cornwall.

The message is intended as a heads-up rather than to cause alarm, with officers encouraging those involved in farming or land management to review their current security measures.

Extra Vigilance Urged

The Rural Affairs Team is asking people to take simple steps to help protect their equipment and assets, highlighting that increased vigilance can make a difference.

They have also reminded the public to report any suspicious activity to police by calling 999 in an emergency, or 101 for non-emergencies.

Three Key Steps to Protect Equipment

Officers have shared three top tips to help reduce the risk of theft:

Secure and store smart
Where possible, equipment should be kept locked inside a secure building. If it needs to be left outside, using heavy-duty locks and parking in well-lit, visible areas covered by CCTV can help.

Use tracking and marking
Installing GPS trackers and marking equipment with identifiable information such as forensic marking or engraving can act as a deterrent and assist with recovery if stolen.

Layer your security
Combining different types of security such as wheel clamps, hitch locks, CCTV, alarms and motion sensor lighting can provide stronger protection.
