Oddfellows members raise a toast at the Redruth summer social

There was a free buffet on the go and a table full of puzzles to get through, and neither was going to finish itself while the wine was still cold. Members of the Oddfellows gathered at the Oddfellows Hall on Green Lane in Redruth for a Summer Social Evening, and the evening turned into a proper mix of good food, old friends and a fair bit of competitive spirit.

The hall put on a spread that did not leave much room for excuses not to stay a while. Pasties, cheeses, quiche, cakes and a variety of drinks were all laid on free of charge for members, and the buffet table barely had a quiet moment all evening.

Puzzles, prizes and plenty of rivalry

Once appetites were taken care of, the tabletop puzzles came out. Members split off around the room to put their skills, patience and teamwork to the test, and it did not take long for the friendly rivalry to set in. There was plenty of laughter drifting between tables as different groups worked their way through the challenges, each one determined to come out on top.

The A Team take the top prize

When the scores were totted up, it was The A Team who came out on top overall, having collected the most prizes across the various challenges on the night. A special overall winner’s prize was also presented, going to Tony, whose evening ended on the highest note of all.

Between the food, the puzzles and the chat, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a lovely way for members to spend time together. A successful and sociable gathering, by the sound of it, with plenty of smiles and good memories to take home.
