The Camel Trail fall that brought coastguard out near Padstow

A day out on one of Cornwall’s busiest cycle paths ended with two emergency services on scene, after a walker took a fall that left them unable to carry on under their own steam.

The callout

HM Coastguard Padstow was tasked at 2.40pm on Tuesday 18 August to support the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with a casualty on the Camel Trail, close to Padstow. The casualty had taken a fall on the trail and was suspected of having broken an ankle and an arm.

Getting the casualty back to the road

Paramedics assessed the casualty at the scene, and the decision was made to move them back to the start of the trail, where they could continue their journey to hospital by road.

Stood down and back to base

Once the casualty was in the care of family members, the coastguard team was stood down and returned to base. It was tasking number 54 of the year for the volunteer team, a sign of how much ground the trail’s cyclists and walkers cover through a Cornish summer.
