Truro remembrance service to mark end of Afghanistan operation
Cornwall’s remembrance calendar isn’t only about the World Wars. Tomorrow, a short service in the middle of Truro turns to a conflict far more recent, one many people can still remember watching unfold on the news.

A short service at the War Memorial
The Operation Herrick Remembrance Service takes place at Truro’s War Memorial on Boscawen Street on Sunday 30 August. It marks Operation Herrick, the name given to the UK’s military operations in Afghanistan, which came to an end with the final withdrawal of British forces from the country in 2021.
The service is being led by the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion, and has been shared by Truro City Council.
Timings for anyone planning to attend
Anyone wanting to attend is asked to muster on Duke Street from 10.30am, ahead of the service itself starting at 10.57am.
Doors, or in this case pavement, open early. The muster on Duke Street begins nearly half an hour before the short service at the War Memorial gets under way.
