Where speed camera crews will be watching in Cornwall this week

Plan a drive across Cornwall this week and there is a decent chance you will pass a speed camera crew somewhere along the way. The Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team has published where its speed detection officers will be concentrating their efforts, day by day, for the week commencing Monday 24 August.

Where speed detection officers will be, day by day

The road safety patrols move around through the week rather than sitting in one spot, so the ground they cover changes from one day to the next. Here is the full list, as published by the Road Safety Team.

• Monday: West, Mid and East Cornwall, West Devon
• Tuesday: West, Mid and East Cornwall, Plymouth, South Devon, South Hams
• Wednesday: West, Mid and East Cornwall, Dartmoor, Plymouth, South Devon, Torbay, North Devon
• Thursday: West, Mid and East Cornwall, Plymouth, South Devon, South Hams, North Devon
• Friday: Mid and East Cornwall, Plymouth, West Devon
• Saturday: Mid and East Cornwall, East Devon
• Sunday: Mid and East Cornwall, Mid Devon

What it means for your journey

Cornwall appears on every single day of the list, in one combination or another. West, Mid and East Cornwall all get attention from Monday through to Thursday, before the coverage narrows slightly to Mid and East Cornwall for the back half of the week. If your journey stays within the county, there is no day this week when officers are not somewhere on Cornish roads.

The wider patch stretches deep into Devon on several days too, taking in Plymouth, South Hams, Dartmoor, Torbay, North Devon, East Devon and Mid Devon at different points. Wednesday is the busiest single day on the list, with seven areas covered between the two counties.

The message behind the list

The Road Safety Team has not said whether crews will be marked, unmarked, static or mobile on any given day, or named specific roads within each area. The point of publishing the list at all seems simple enough: a reminder that detection officers are working somewhere nearby, most days, wherever you happen to be driving in Devon and Cornwall this week.

Their message to drivers was equally straightforward. Stick to the limit, wherever that journey takes you.
