A birthday cake and a tractor run for Launceston Police

A slice of birthday cake on Saturday. A line of tractors rumbling out of Lawhitton on Sunday. Not every weekend for the officers who look after Launceston looks quite like this one.

Launceston Police has shared a round-up of a busy couple of days, with the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team visiting two community events across the area.

Nineteen years of the Memory Café

On Saturday (17 October), the team helped celebrate the 19th birthday of the Memory Café in Launceston.

The café has been running for nearly two decades, offering support, friendship and companionship to people living with memory problems and to their carers. Officers joined in the celebrations and spent time speaking with the people who attend, volunteer and help make the café what the team described as a valuable community resource.

Out with the tractors from Lawhitton

The following day, Sunday (18 October), officers were with local farmers and the wider community at the Bill Browning Memorial Tractor Run, which set off from Lawhitton.

The team said it was great to see so many people coming together in support of a well-attended local event, and to catch up with members of the area’s rural communities.

Why officers turn up to events like these

As part of community policing, the team said, opportunities like these are invaluable. They let officers meet residents, listen to concerns, hear about what matters to local communities, and simply have a chat.

The team thanked everyone who took the time to stop and speak with them over the weekend, and said it looks forward to seeing people again at future community events.
